February 15, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST

$40

The first few weeks in the life of a plant are critical. Should you direct seed or transplant? How do you prepare the soil? Our farmer instructors will answer these questions and many more in this extensive, practical class. We’ll also dive into scale-appropriate equipment and methods for both direct seeding and transplanting, so you can give your crops the best start possible!

Liz Visser- Blandford Nature Center Farm (MI)

Liz Visser has managed the Blandford Nature Center Farm for 5 years.  Through that time, she has experimented with many different techniques for starting and planting seeds, and for bed prep.  She believes that there are many “right” ways to farm that fall within the parameters of approved CNG practices.  Each farm will have different advantages, challenges and microclimates.  Critically assessing processes and techniques, comparing plans with experiences and results through the season, and tailoring approaches to be ever more in tune with the land, and with goals for the farm is something Liz incorporates into planning strategies each year. There is always something new to learn!

Jackson Rolett- No-Till Growers

Jackson Rolett, co-founder and man behind the curtain of No-Till Growers, has farmed for ~10 years across various scales of vegetable production and has started several farms in southern KY throughout his farming career. He’s grown from 5+ acres of tractor-based plasticulture to 1/2 acre of no-till permanent beds and everything in between. Being very familiar with bed prep, having done it so often, he understands the importance of setting the field up right the first time.
