Poughkeepsie Farm Project

Poughkeepsie, New York

Poughkeepsie Farm Project began in 1999 as a small community farm with a commitment to education and food justice.

Our mission is to cultivate a just and sustainable food system in the Mid-Hudson Valley. We do this in many ways, by growing fresh vegetables and fruit for our 500+ household CSA, training future farmers, providing hands-on educational programs, and improving access to healthy locally-grown food. As an important part of our mission, we provide locally-grown produce to children in the City of Poughkeepsie School District and donate 20% of what we grow to those in need in our community.

We make our own compost and follow growing practices that prioritize soil health. Thee include cover cropping, which allows the soil to rest and microbial communities to flourish, and following four-year crop rotations, which help us manage diseases naturally by preventing their build-up in the soil. In addition to doing our best to keep our plants healthy so they can fend off pests and disease on their own, we also cultivate and purchase a community of beneficial insects (such as lady beetles) to help manage pests.
