Chicago Honey Co-op

Chicago, Illinois

Since 2004 Chicago Honey Co-op has been keeping bees on an abandoned industrial property in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood. In 2012 we lost our longtime apiary and found three new locations in Chicago. We keep anywhere form 50 to 75 hives in any given year and take the honey and other products from the hive to two farmers markets in Chicago.

While our original mission was as a job training program, our focus has evolved over time into a long term relationship within the community with emphasis on education and opportunities for growing food and healthy eating.

We feel privileged to have worked in the neighborhoods for as long as we have and have developed lasting relationships as a result.
